Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Don Blankenship, Rudy Giuliani, and more
For much of his main segment tonight, Oliver talked about a man in Rudy Giuliani who hasn’t had anywhere near close to this much press since he was the Mayor of New York City / a candidate for higher office. However, this time around much of this press is due to him being on President Trump’s legal team and doing a wide array of interviews (not all of them beneficial) on the subject of some of his legal matters. Oliver went through some of Giuliani’s history tonight, from the time in which he left the Mayor’s Office to a wide array of the different controversies that followed that up. He discussed his failed Presidential run, his penchant for discussing 9/11 in various campaign material, and so much more.
Of course, the entire segment ended in a way in which you almost certainly had to expect that it would — with a spoof campaign to get Giuliani elected President. Given everything that’s happened in this world the past few years, is anything really out of the ordinary anymore?
As for other news… – One of the more surprising focuses for Oliver’s show tonight was on a West Virginia Senate race including Don Blankenship, a convicted criminal who may actually have a shot in the election. Much of his criminal past has to do with mine safety, and when you consider Oliver’s past segment on Bob Murray, maybe this shouldn’t be much of a shock at all.
Finally, Alaska – The episode concluded tonight by bringing you back to the Alaskan Blockbuster store that Oliver offered to send the Russell Crowe memorabilia to.
Also, this episode brought you the John Oliver Koala Chlamydia Ward. Ridiculous, but also perfect in a way in which you would expect from this show.
