When will Call the Midwife season 8 premiere in the US on PBS?
Unfortunately, the hard part starts tonight in the form of waiting — after all, you are going to be doing that for a long time since it doesn’t seem as though season 8 is going to be coming anytime soon. The next US airing of Call the Midwife will come around Christmas with, appropriately, the Christmas Special. This is actually being filmed this month, and following that season 8 production will really start to ramp up.
The season 8 premiere for Call the Midwife on PBS will likely be in March, which is when it does typically air stateside. The premiere in the UK is likely going to come before that — think along the lines of January. While we wish there was a little less of a delay between the show airing in the UK and in America, this is just the way that it’s always worked. It is similar in that way to what PBS did with Downton Abbey or what they are doing now with Victoria. They have a viewership that has shown over the years to be exceptionally patient — even if they have to wait a little bit longer for their series to air they are more than happy to do it, provided that the work ends up being fantastic on the other side.
For those concerned about the long-term future of Call the Midwife, don’t be — after all, the series has already been renewed through season 9 so clearly, there is no cause for concern in the near future. We actually believe that it could last however long the cast and crew want to keep making it. For now, it remains enormously popular in terms of the ratings that it receives in the United Kingdom.
