Blue Bloods season 8 episode 21 review: A Jamko moment; Frank takes on tech

Blue Bloods season 8

Blue Bloods season 8 episode 21 may be one of the best episodes of this season, at least in terms of giving you a perfect balance of stories, and with all of them being intriguing in their own right.

Given that we know that there are many Jamko fans out there who are reading, we’ll start with the two of them — after a harrowing case involving a kidnapped newborn, Eddie canceled her date with Barry and instead decided to go out with Jamie — it may not have been for a romantic date, but she knew that he would understand what she was going through after taking on a heavy case like this so much more than her boyfriend would. This is the sort of sign that hints that Barry may not be Eddie’s boyfriend too much longer, though we’re not able to drop the Jamko banners in celebration just yet.

Still, isn’t it nice to know that the two characters are getting to spend some more time together away from the job?

The meatiest story for this week was probably the one about Frank and his attempts to convince a tech company boss to unlock a phone that belonged to a terrorist. This was a way to get justice for some tragic killings, but it also set a dangerous precedent about consumer privacy. At first, the tech boss was understandably hesitant to do anything to compromise the trust that his customers had in the company — it took a lot of convincing and an emotional appeal from Frank to convince him to (discreetly) change his mind. Maybe this is an optimistic viewpoint on the relationship between tech giants and the NYPD, but this is the story that we like to see Blue Bloods speaking on. Also, who else loved getting to see a little more of Bebe Neuwirth on the show?

Finally, this episode brought you an entertaining case where Danny and Erin had to deal with a shady source in John Romano who supposedly had some information on a grisly crime — one that he was willing to disclose as a means to help free his son. This was a fine example of Danny and Erin’s mastery for their jobs — over the course of this episode, they managed to both investigate and then get both father and son arrested in the midst of their little scheme. These two are at their best when they are out-thinking criminals and this was another fine reminder of it.
