Dear White People season 3 renewal: Should it happen at Netflix?

Dear White People season 3 renewal

Following today’s premiere, should a Dear White People season 3 renewal happen at Netflix at some point in the future?

As of right now, we’re probably in the camp of “it’s a little too early to say for sure,” just because of the fact that this series is just now premiering most of its season 2 episodes. While there is a reason to have a certain degree of confidence in what’s coming up in the future, Netflix hasn’t exactly made it so that renewals of some of their shows are a slam-dunk anymore. They are being a little more discerning than they once were and they have a little bit of a better understanding as to what works and doesn’t work for them.

In the case of Dear White People, though, we do think that they have a show that does work for them. This is one that has the capacity to draw a number of different headlines at any given moment and takes on subjects at close proximity to when they are happening in the real world. There is a need for a show like this, and that goes beyond just the fact that this is a very funny series that packs a lot of comedy into every episode.

When it comes to the show’s long-term future, maybe you can make the case that there is only so long it can run unless there’s a completely new cast that is being ushered in soon. This is a show that is set around college and with that in mind, these characters are only going to be in school for so long. Unless you really start dragging the show out or keeping the main characters in this community, we envision that this is going to be one of those slice-of-life shows that gives you a small picture of who these people are before moving on. When it comes to the long-term future, time will tell (but we do know that it would be nice to have at least one more season beyond the current one).
