Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt series finale could come after season 4

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 4

Is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt ending a little bit earlier than anyone would have expected? Based on early indications, that seems to be the case.

According to a report coming in right now via Deadline, the Netflix series featuring Ellie Kemper and Jane Krakowski may call in quits after the upcoming fourth season with some sort of movie event. This is a move brought on more by the cast and creative team rather than the network, as they feel like the story of Kimmy and her crazy antics may be coming to an end.

While this is a surprise, it is probably only that in the sense that we’re so used to the standard TV model of series running for six or seven years, at least, before opting to end on their own terms. With Netflix, there is a little bit more flexibility and this is feeling almost like a British comedy in the sense that many of them often have shorter runs and end while they are on a creative high point.

If Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt does end up going out with its fourth season, we’ve got a pretty good feeling that some of its creative contributions are not going to be forgotten. This is a show that really did help to give Netflix credibility as a producer of great comedy content. It also had such a fascinating story towards its arrival on TV that it really cannot be forgotten. After originally being passed on elsewhere Tina Fey and Robert Carlock eventually brought the series over to Netflix, which it showed that a network-style comedy can thrive with a little more creative freedom and by making the episodes however long they needed to be in order to suit the story. Kimmy has grown up quite a bit since her time in the bunker, but we do still think that she is still the same happy, hyper-energetic person that she once was.
