Empire season 5 renewal official at Fox
Is this news shocking? Hardly. While Empire may not be the live+same-day ratings behemoth that it once was it still remains one of Fox’s most-successful properties year in and year out. It draws consistently incredible numbers and also generates awards recognition at the same time. There’s nothing else that the network has that is quite like that and we imagine, with this in mind, that they are going to continue embracing it for as long as they possibly can.
In a new statement discussing the big renewal news further, Fox’s President of Entertainment Michael Thorn had the following to say:
“Empire is as compelling, emotional and unpredictable as it ever was … We are so proud of our amazing cast, led by Terrence [Howard] and Taraji [P. Henson], who deliver powerful performances week after week. We’d also like to thank our tremendous creative team… whose inspired storytelling continues to create the unforgettable, jaw-dropping OMG moments that have always been signature to Empire.”
(Sidebar: Does Fox really need to hype up “OMG moments” within a press release? We’re really not all that sure that they do.)
Empire remains still a show with potentially a long life ahead of it, depending of course on how long the writers remain engaged. The Lyon family is not going anywhere in the near future and with that in mind, the writers do have the ability to create a multitude of different stories in the years to come depending on whatever suits their fancy. We imagine that there are many exciting moments ahead and we’re more than stoked to get to every single one of them.
Empire season 5 will premiere on Fox in the fall, most likely; further details will more than likely be revealed at the official Fox upfront presentation a little bit later this month.
