MacGyver season 2 finale debate: Do we expect a cliffhanger?
As per usual with this series, there are quite a few different possibilities — yet, we can already fathom a way in which this is going to pan out.
For starters, just take a look at the main story entering the finale: MacGyver’s father and questions as to whether or not the character could end up appearing in the flesh. There are already plenty of rumors out there but none that are necessarily for certain. We could get close to meeting Mac’s dad in the closing minutes and then get a black screen; or, we could end up meeting Mac’s father without getting a chance to learn precisely why he abandoned his son so many years ago.
Or, how about this? Maybe we meet Mac’s dad and it’s clear that he and his son need to work together on a mission. Unfortunately, we fade to black before we learn anything more on that. After spending so much time this season building towards a possible meeting, our sentiment is that no matter what happens in the finale, it should end with some sort of tease leaning into more of Mac’s dad in season 3.
What about the introduction of a new villain?
This is certainly something else we’d be excited to see, though we also wouldn’t mind getting more of the story of The Ghost or Murdoc, who we actually haven’t had a chance to see on the series too often as of late. We do like the idea of setting up a new villain who appears in the finale and then resurfaces throughout much of the third season. It’s a great little tease, and sometimes having that is almost as effective as some sort of huge cliffhanger that raises questions regarding the future. (There is a part of us that thinks it’d be really funny / really twisted if Samantha Cage comes back as a villain in the finale and her entire presence was part of some elaborate scheme … though we recognize this is probably not happening.)
