If Criminal Minds season 14 happens, how can CBS promote it further?

Criminal Minds

Unfortunately, there is still no official news out there in regards to Criminal Minds season 14. Would we love there to be given that we’re at the start of May? Absolutely, and hopefully said news will be coming soon.

As we look beyond that, though, we thought it’d be fun to play a little bit of a what-if game here — provided that the series does get a season 14, what are some things that CBS can do to help it shine further? How do you make Criminal Minds even more of a star? While it performs solidly in its current spot and with its current promotion, we do want to see it stand out even more than it has as of late.

Is it in the right timeslot? – What we’d actually like to see with the series is to see it shift to a different night altogether — Mondays. Think in terms of airing the series at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time after a more consolidated CBS comedy block. Give the show a chance to shine against some reality shows that are very different from it and, in turn, give it a little more specific promotion. We’ve seen the ceiling here somewhat for it on Wednesday night’s lineup and it could benefit the series to do something a little bit different.

How can the series get more headlines? – We do think that a big part of the show’s success at this point comes via the characters and we’ve love to see more episodes and promos that revolve around some of their struggles. It’s hard so many years in to sell this series just on the basis of some UnSubs — many of them are terrifying, but we think that there are so many other sources of terrifying individuals out there on TV right now it’s harder to make them distinct, especially in ten-second promos.

Beyond just this, why not give the show a few more noteworthy guest stars? We do think that with the nature of this series and some of its psychopaths, there are opportunities for many a meaty role for big-name actors to take on.

What more can be done in the off-season? – We’d suggest CBS do more to build the Criminal Minds community by featuring notable repeats, getting the fans involved with interactive polls, or maybe even doing little features like sharing the cast’s favorite episodes with a few details as to why they enjoyed working on them so much. The more that you can make individual episodes special, the more that the series as a whole is special in turn.
