Will an LA to Vegas season 2 renewal happen on Fox?
When it comes to this particular comedy series featuring Dylan McDermott, it’s in a little bit of an interesting spot. Creatively, it would be a thrill to be able to get the show back for another run. There aren’t many other workplace comedies out there quite like it and we really dig the idea of having this array of performers trying to do such crazy things week after week within the confines of such a limited space.
As for the ratings, though, this is where things get tricky. In terms of the live+same-day ratings alone, the first season of the show averaged a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s on par with some of Fox’s other comedies — and scripted series in general — but it’s also not something that you have a lot of confidence in, either. There were some episodes that posted just a 0.6 rating in the demo and it’s also had some episodes that dipped below more than 2 million total viewers. The good news for Fox is that they seemed to have built a good architecture around their comedy series so that live+same-day ratings are only part of the battle. They can perform via streaming, On-Demand, or DVR to accumulate more viewers and increase their chances at coming back.
The biggest reason to have hope right now in an LA to Vegas season 2 is simple: It’s a funny show. It has an appealing cast and there’s room for expansion and interesting guest stars moving forward. It feels like the sort of show that could benefit from a summer of binge-watching. Comedies often take a little to really find themselves so we like to see networks take a gamble on a second season just for the sake of seeing what happens. If it doesn’t work at that point, you can always opt to take a risk and cancel it then.
