Ink Master: Angels preview: Meet Blake Thomas, Mel Cox, Mike Wallace

Ink Master: Angels - Blake Thomas

Tuesday night’s new episode of Ink Master: Angels is going to be set in Houston and with that, you’ve got three very different artists competing for a spot on season 11. It’s been a while since we’ve had a winner on this show and we’re hoping someone pulls something big off here! Of course, it’s not going to be easy when you consider that one of these three artists is going to be squaring off with Ryan Ashley Malarkey at the end. Who wants to battle a winner?

Below, you can watch a preview video for this episode — while also getting a sense as to some of the three artists in the process as they compete in a longhorn-themed challenge.

Blake Thomas – He’s known for doing illustrative portraits, and he’s lived within Texas for much of his entire life. He’s got a knack for doing fast, efficient work, but with that in mind, that doesn’t necessarily mean that some of his work is the best. For some reason, we didn’t get too much in the way of personal insight here.

Mel Cox – She’s been tattooing for over a decade and a half and specializes in neo-traditional tattoo work. She’s a little bit of a nomad who has worked really hard and finds stability via her boyfriend. She shows in this first challenge that she has no problem taking a big risk.

Mike Wallace – He has the same name as an NFL player, but somehow, that may not be what stands out the most about him. Instead, that may just be the fact that he refers to himself as “Mr. Houston.” This man OOZES confidence. He thinks that he is the best artist known to mankind, but he is a little more humble when it comes to his home life. This guy is BOLD when it comes to his attempt to do a full-color portrait in just two hours.

So who ended up being the winner of this competition? This was interesting given that none of the tattoos were all that great. Mel had the most creative design of the three but the design all blended together. Personally, we do think that Mike delivered the best of the three … but he didn’t even finish. Give them all an extra hour and we do think his would be a tattoo worth watching celebrating.

The show didn’t give us a winner in the preview, which is somewhat appropriate given that there weren’t any real home runs here.
