The Originals season 5 spoilers: Daniel Gillies on Elijah’s journey back

The Originals

On next week’s new episode of The Originals season 5, we know that there are many exciting things you are going to see — with a lot of them revolving around Elijah. Daniel Gillis’ character is getting a big spotlight hour and the majority of the hype that we’ve seen about this so far has been super-positive. This is the sort of thing that does get us really excited — after all, we are getting a chance in here to traverse a part of this character’s life we really haven’t had an opportunity to explore that much in the past.

So what does Gillies have to say about the side of Elijah you are going to see in this episode, the one without many of his memories intact? Take a look at just some of what he had to say via TV Guide:

“He’s a very different being … He’s lost a millennium of information, but he has all of this kind of vampiric muscle memory, in terms of his abilities and what not. He’s discovering who he is.”

The more that he does that, the more he may his mind may be flooded with memories both good and bad. There is also a certain element of tragedy that comes with this situation. After all, think of things in this way — Elijah has had a long, painful, and heartbreaking life. There are some victories that he has experienced, but there has also been a lot of tragedy. He’s experienced pain and loss that is really beyond our comprehension. To have all of that rush back into his brain had to be a difficult thing to grapple and think about and it could end up being an interesting subject that The Originals could explore … provided, of course, that they want to take this story down this particular route.
