Could a McMafia season 2 renewal happen on AMC after finale?
At the moment, though, there is nothing 100% official on the subject of the series’ future. The James Norton series first premiered on the BBC in Great Britain before its premiere in the United States, and overseas the series did deliver a certain degree of success. In America, however, its ratings have not necessarily been hugely impressive. It is to date averaging around a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic to go along with just over 300,000 total viewers. These numbers are down significantly from its lead-in in The Terror and also from The Night Manager, the last co-production between a British television network and AMC.
So why hasn’t McMafia taken off more than it has? This is a very good series with a lot of interesting drama, twists, and turns. Yet, one of the biggest things that it lacks in the United States is star power. James Norton is reasonably well-known in Great Britain for Grantchester and some other roles, but he doesn’t have the same name recognition in the United States. While Grantchester did air in America on PBS, it didn’t exactly have the largest audience in the world, either. (For those who have not heard as of yet, there is going to be another season of Grantchester coming up in the future with us getting a chance to see one more season with Norton as lead.)
Expect there to be no hurry in order to see more of McMafia on the air. At the moment, there are still decisions being made on the future of The Night Manager and that’s a show that went off of the air a good year ago. There’s plenty of time in order for some executives and powers-that-be to figure this out.
