About the Jane the Virgin season 4 finale surprise…

Jane the Virgin season 4

The Jane the Virgin season 4 finale aired on The CW Friday night, and let’s just say that it may have delivered one of the biggest jaw-droppers in recent television history.

Remember how many character deaths we tend to get at the end of various seasons? Well, this time around Jane the Virgin did something totally different and well-suited for this crazy genre … they brought someone back to life, at least metaphorically speaking.

As it turns out, Michael is not actually dead. He lives! This has to be the biggest twist to the show ever just in terms of how (understandably) upset so many people were after all that happened with Michael in the first place. That was a grieving process for so many.

One question that we know many people are wondering right now is this: Was this twist planned from the beginning with Brett Dier’s character? That’s something that show executive producer Jennie Urman talked about in a postmortem piece over at TVLine:

I had the possibility of it, I would say. This has been in the works for a while. I talked to Brett about this about a year ago. It really had to do with the build-up and set-up to the beginning of the end and what telenovela tropes we have left to play. There are two big ones that we’ve been saving, one of which is this return from the dead, and then there’s another. It was always a possibility, and then came into focus a while back.

This is obviously going to shake up the series in a really big way and we’re interested to see how that plays out. For Jane, the challenge is determining A) if this is really Michael (you never know) and then B) how this changes things with her and Rafael. Right when the love triangle was seemingly over, it finds a way to come roaring back in dramatic fashion.
