Homeland season 8 will be final season, Claire Danes confirms
In a new interview with Howard Stern series star Claire Danes confirmed this by saying that even though Carrie Mathison is a meaty, exciting role, there may also be something nice that comes with getting a little bit of a break from the part. She also confirmed in the interview that is currently pregnant; Deadline reports that this will not have an impact on production for the eighth season.
In speaking towards Homeland coming to a close, we do think that this is something that was bound to happen eventually for a number of different reasons. For starters, that was the suggestion back when the series was renewed through season 8, though the show’s bosses had been cagey on officially calling it the end. Also, eventually the cast is going to want to go on to do other things. (Showrunner executive producer Alex Gansa noted that he would leave at the end of season 8 regardless of what Showtime wanted for the series moving forward.)
We do think that the subject matter could have kept this show relevant for a while longer, but sometimes it really is better to just allow things to come to a graceful conclusion without overstaying a welcome. What can be easily done now is for Showtime to simply come up with a new concept for a series similar to Homeland and run with it for the immediate future. While we’d love to have a little bit more of Homeland on the air for years to come, it may just be time for something new.
There are still a couple more episodes to go for Homeland season 7 and we look forward to covering those in the days ahead.
