The Originals season 5 premiere video: Klaus reunites with ‘Elijah’

The Originals

Going into The Originals season 5 premiere, we made the assumption that it would take a little while in order to see Klaus reuniting with some of his other family members.

As it turns out, not so fast. In the new sneak peek below via TV Guide, you can see a little bit of what we are talking about here. Klaus apparently isn’t a big fan of heeding warnings, and doesn’t seem to be altogether nervous about the idea of The Hollow coming back. How else can you explain the fact that he is showing up to listen to Elijah play piano? This is an opportunity for him to forge some sort of emotional connection with someone, even if this is not the same version of Elijah that he remembers. This Elijah doesn’t have a recollection as to who he is or what happened in the past. To him, Klaus is more or less a complete stranger and he is communicating with him like he is any other patron.

Regardless of some of the memory issues that are present here this is a really lovely scene featuring Daniel Gillies and Joseph Morgan, one that does set up what should be a fascinating and hopefully-powerful season between the two. There are a lot of interesting things that we are hopefully going to learn as time goes by about Elijah’s memory, and that is one big story to follow. The other is, of course, if anyone can slow down some of Klaus’ murderous ways. This seems to be the primary purpose of Caroline’s return (at least at first); whether or not this turns into something a little bit more substantial down the line is a story we’re going to have to wait to check out.
