Criminal Minds season 13 finale: Should the current BAU team return?

Criminal MindsMoving into the Criminal Minds season 13 finale there are of course many different things that you should be worried about. The status of the BAU moving forward should very well be at the top of the list.

In the past, we’ve seen some of these finales serve as the impetus for some major sea changes among the show’s cast. Often, we’ll get some sort of cliffhanger that leads to a departure from the team; another possibility is we just see someone depart outright and we know for certain that they won’t be coming back.

Given that last season led to the departure of Damon Gupton and we’ve seen other departures in recent memory (remember Jennifer Love Hewitt?), it’s certainly possible one could happen here. Yet, we personally hope that nobody does. There’s obviously been a great sense of flux on the series over time in between losing the aforementioned cast members and of course Thomas Gibson and Shemar Moore (who departed during the season as opposed to at the end), but in terms of the overall group this is one of the best teams we’ve had in the past couple of seasons. We like the chemistry here a lot, it’s great to have Paget Brewster around as the leader of the team, and Daniel Henney has shown, to the surprise of no one, that he is a great addition as Matt Simmons. Of course, you do also have the series mainstays like Kirsten Vangsness, Matthew Gray Gubler, Joe Mantegna, and AJ Cook present here. They all give the series that comfort-food sort of quality.

If one of those four cast members or Brewster leaving in the finale it’s going to be worth all of the frowning-face emojis in the world. If something like this is to happen you really hope that CBS would announce it long in advance, if for no other reason than preparing for the opportunity to say goodbye. Can you imagine what would happen on Twitter in the event that we lost someone like Spencer or Garcia? Our estimation is that virtually all of social media would be in ruins. Fingers crossed that there is a good cliffhanger, but not one that leads to someone taking their final bow before a hopeful season 14.
