Fear the Walking Dead season 4 premiere video: Meet John Dorie
The sneak peek below gives you a small sense of who this character is and let’s be clear — he’s different. This is a guy with a very specific vibe, style, and personality. We’re not sure that there is anyone else quite like him within in the Fear the Walking Dead universe just yet. You can already get the sense that this guy has some demons, but he’s a bit of a loner who has spent a lot of time separate from society. He’s a haunted cowboy who hasn’t really needed to use his voice in a long time — heck, there’s a part of this video where he just rambles on for the sake of doing so, just because he hasn’t done so in a really long time.
John Dorie is an interesting character — he’s desperate for some sort of companionship, but not altogether trusting as to who it could be or what sort of companionship in turn that they could offer up. We learned that he had himself a good place before the start of the zombie apocalypse … and that he also has a lot of popcorn. He also, however briefly it was, had a relationship with a woman over the course of the past year. It’s hard to know precisely why that happened there.
So why is Fear the Walking Dead season 4 is opening things up with this man? We feel like this is the influence of new showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian B. Goldberg, who are taking over from Dave Erickson at the end of the season. They want to give you a new vision for the show and an understanding of what the world could be now.
For those wondering, Garret Dillahunt is playing the John Dorie character. You’ll be seeing a good bit of him at least through the early going this season.
