NCIS: New Orleans season 4 finale forecast: Will Percy’s replacement be solidified?
What could be coming up on the NCIS: New Orleans season 4 finale? Going into it, we know that there are a lot of different, interesting ideas that the CBS show could bring to the table. At the time of it being written there was likely confidence that it would be coming back for another season.
There is still one important show-related decision to be made though, and hopefully that is something that the writers address in a pretty big way coming up: How to replace Shalita Grant, who departed on this past episode after Percy ended up taking a job with the FBI. This is not necessarily something that the series needs to do this season, but the finale could continue to hint at possible replacements or at least try out some candidates. One of the benefits that does come with Grant leaving when she did is that it allows some time for experimentation. If there are some candidates who don’t end up working, NCIS: New Orleans can then look elsewhere over the summer. It’s a unique position that they are in, though we still are salty with the idea of not having Percy on the show anymore.
As for some of the other stuff that we want to see moving into the finale…
A new adversary – One of the things that was so intense about the end of season 3 is that there was such a specific adversary in Mayor Hamilton. Can the series find someone else who has as great an emotional impact on the story? We do think that would help to increase the dramatic weight of the story and also getting people talking about it beyond just a case-of-the-week procedural.
Some familiar faces – Can you get back some guest stars from earlier this season? At the very least, it would be nice to have another appearance from Pride’s daughter Laurel as she made this last episode more personal for him. Given that Scott Bakula is still the cornerstone of the series it feels right to really hone in on his character for the final episode. It’s probably a pipe dream, but we’d love to see some sort of scene with him and Gibbs (Mark Harmon) once more.
A possible cliffhanger – We’re not opposed to NCIS: New Orleans doing something big, explosive, and exciting in the closing minutes. While we’d have a hard time thinking that the writers would kill someone off so soon after losing Grant, there is still something valuable in trying to raise the stakes and make viewers sweat a little bit over the summer. This is the sort of show that benefits from cliffhangers, mostly because it doesn’t have too many opportunities for press outside of that.
