Blue Bloods season 8: Is Mayor Dutton leaving; will she date Frank?

Blue Bloods season 8

The idea of these two characters getting together is certainly one that has been floated on CarterMatt for a while now, mostly because they seem to be perfect for each other in some ways — they’re age-appropriate, smart, interesting, and they challenge each other. One of the many things that we have had a chance to learn over time when it comes to Frank Reagan is that he loves taking on challenges and we would think that this mindset would spill over into his romantic life too.

There was something about the conversation that the two parties had tonight that was sweet and, beyond that, offered up some insight into how they could be together someday. Dutton never sought out to be the Mayor; she was the public advocate, forced into the position after the resignation of Mayor Poole. This is the sort of job that tested her in ways that she didn’t imagine and she doesn’t want to do it forever. She basically offered Frank tonight a date opportunity-of-sorts after she gets leaves her position. They can go to Central Park together, provided that he can ditch the security detail. (It seems like right now her plan is to stick it out until after the election is over.)

Is Lorraine Bracco going to leave the show after she leaves the Mayor’s Office? Not necessarily, given that in the event she and Frank do start a relationship they can probably appear together in a few season 9 episodes. That’s what we are hoping for right now — in general, it’s just a nice thought that there can be a romantic storyline featuring older characters on TV. It’s true to life and in so many ways, it’s inspiring, especially after everything that Frank has gone through already. Hopefully, this is a relationship that Blue Bloods does explore more this season.
