Scandal season 7 episode 17 spoilers: Will Jake, Cyrus take down Olivia?
Scandal season 7 episode 17 is the final one before the big series finale that is airing on ABC later this month; with that in mind, everything is starting to come to a head. We’re going to be seeing Jake Ballard and Cyrus doing their best in order to achieve one goal and one goal only: Trying to see if they can usurp Mellie Grant. They are desperate for power, and they feel at this point that one of the most compelling ways in which to do that is by turning the tables and forcing Olivia to have to do battle against the President in the court room. She is being called upon to testify against her and this is going to be a battle of lies and a battle of wits. Olivia has to make her arguments clear and do so in a way that throws off her opponents. If things go wrong with this testimony, it’s pretty clear that both Mellie’s Presidency and also her own career will be over.
Is it really possible that Scandal as a series could end with something as crazy as seeing Olivia Pope actually losing to Jake and Cyrus? This would make a great vessel for the message of “bad guys don’t always win,” but we are not sure that it would hold too much value outside of that. While it may be true that we have bore witness to Olivia doing a wide array of super-terrible things through the run of this series, there is something about her ambition and her fight that makes you want to keep rooting for her. She’s smart, she’s capable, and she’s worked her butt off to get to this point. Given that Jake and Cyrus are really the worst possible evils out there, it makes perfect sense to root for Olivia and, in turn, against both of them.
