MacGyver season 2 episode 20 is airing on CBS next week — with that in mind, let’s start things off by rejoicing that there is no long hiatus ahead! The next new episode entitled “Skyscraper – Power” is airing in just one week’s time, and interestingly this is going to be the second episode in just three weeks that features a private jet pretty prominently.
This episode also features some rather fantastic guest stars in screen icons Ed Asner and Piper Laurie, who are set to be a jet-setting couple who find themselves in a rather unusual position. For a little more information on that, just take a look at the episode synopsis that Cartermatt has for you below:
“Skyscraper – Power” – Mac and Jack attempt to rescue a billionaire’s son after he is kidnapped by a former Navy SEAL who uses an EMP weapon to cut off power and communication lines to the Shanghai skyscraper where the boy lives, on MACGYVER, Friday, April 13 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Ed Asner and Piper Laurie guest star as a couple on a private jet commandeered by Mac and Jack to fly to Shanghai.
This is an episode that seems almost ripe with potential for crazy hi-jinks, especially when you consider some of the guest stars’ experience with comedy and how we imagine them feeling about their plane getting taken over. (In some ways, the photo above really speaks for itself.) As this episode progresses it feels pretty clear that there’s going to be some great opportunities to learn more about who these two are, but probably only as an extension to the larger case.
On the other side of this episode, the sad news is that we are very much within the home stretch of the season! There are only three episodes to go and that means there is a lot of story that the producers/writers are going to need to cram in. To this point, they’ve done a really great job at finding ways to keep the story fun while also introducing some new mythology. What we wonder mostly is this: Will there be some sort of notorious villain a la Murdoc introduced at the end, or are we going into the finale with the focus more about the search for Mac’s father? Even if we have only seen tiny teases of it here and there throughout the season, it nonetheless does feel a little bit like that’s what the writing is building towards.
