Grey’s Anatomy season 14 episode 19 preview: ICE, DACA, & April’s past
There is a good chance that you have seen some of the previews already for this episode featuring the doctors at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital being visited by some ICE agents hunting down one of the interns. On this episode, you’re going to get a chance to really see this story play out. Someone will be targeted by the immigration authorities, and that could end up leaving some of the other doctors in a difficult position. Do they end up protecting one of their own? They obviously will want to, but this is clearly a political minefield and there are a lot of different things that need to be thought about. Hopefully, this episode is going to offer up a chance to see if this issue divides or unites everyone in the hospital.

An agent from ICE shows up at Grey Sloan in search of an employee who may be working in the U.S. under DACA. Alex’s patient Kimmie wants to leave the hospital to enjoy her final days, but Alex feels differently. Meanwhile, Arizona treats Matthew Taylor’s baby and April wants to do whatever she can to help.
It feels, going into this episode, like the big story that will be heavily promoted is the one featuring DACA and we definitely understand that. This is Grey’s Anatomy knowing what is going to get headlines outside of the show while also touching on what is an extremely important issue.
Beyond this story, though, there is quite a bit to be interested in seeing. For example, how will Alex ultimately respond to Kimmie’s wishes? It’s an interesting debate given how protective that he tends to be over some of his patients; he may still be clinging to some last essence of home, which is not something that Kimmie may have beyond just a desire to enjoy what little is left of her life.
As for April, this episode will be the real test of whether or not she is truly past her crisis of faith. What happened with Matthew earlier this season was one of the catalysts into her descent. Here, she will have to see if she can move past that; yet, there is still another important question in whether or not Arizona should accept her help, given that she is so emotionally invested in the case. That can at time prove rather problematic.
