Big Little Lies season 2 photo: See Meryl Streep as Perry’s mother!

Meryl Streep

There is a lot to look forward to at the moment when it comes to Big Little Lies season 2, but obviously, one of the largest selling points of all is simply this: The opportunity to see Meryl Streep in action. The HBO series recent cast the legendary actress in the role of Perry’s mother Mary Louise Wright, who has arrived to Monterey looking for one thing: Answers. She’s probably grieving given the death of his son — as horrible as the things he did were, that doesn’t altogether change the fact that she is still his mother. It’s hard for anyone else to understand just what it’s like to be in her position; with that, there is probably going to be a lot of drama that comes with her being around this world.

Below, you can see what is one of the first photos from the new season featuring Kidman alongside Streep as this character. On paper, it absolutely looks as though everyone is happy and getting along in some capacity … though we also have a really hard time thinking that this is actually the case. Instead, the more likely scenario that is going to unfold from here is getting a chance to see an escalation of drama that eventually boils over — but in some ways, don’t you have to want that given some of the major players on board here?

In bringing on Streep HBO has absolutely done a great job of finding someone else to help bring even more excitement around one of their most-popular shows. With that being said, there is still one major obstacle in our way as viewers: The long wait. More than likely new episodes are many months away from airing — we imagine that the network will try to get this out there for viewers as soon as humanly possible, but you’re probably still going to have to wait for a little while in order to get there.
