Blue Bloods season 8 episode 18 could cause chaos with Frank, Mayor Dutton

Blue Bloods season 8

When Blue Bloods season 8 episode 18 airs on CBS Friday night, you could be seeing the CBS series dive into some fairly controversial waters. This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen the show really touch on the delicate relations between the police and the African-American community, and it’s probably not going to be the last.

The preview seems to raise questions about Mayor Dutton : Is she protecting a young man who Frank believes to be guilty of shooting a cop? If she does that, there’s a good chance that she damages morale within the NYPD and gives them the perception that the Mayor’s Office doesn’t care about them. If she doesn’t do that she may have the police on her side, but in doing so is she ignoring the plight that this young man may have had before the shooting? In the promo she suggests to Frank that the shooter may have felt threatened when he fired off the bullet — that’s certainly a thought for discussion but there needs to be some sort of substantial evidence to back that up.

We’re not saying one way or another that Dutton is right for floating the idea, but she does need to realize that she is walking a very thin line. Her relationship with Frank is not altogether great in the first place, mostly because she continues to think of the city first and doesn’t always think about what will end up actually helping the NYPD and make their lives easier. There does have to be a healthy balance in order to make everything work.

From an acting perspective this story should be gold. Lorraine Bracco is a great performer and seeing her go toe to toe with Tom Selleck is always a delight. The more we have characters pushing Frank, the better off Frank is. Personally, we’re still not opposed to the idea of Frank and Dutton being together; they actually have a lot in common in terms of their stubbornness.
