Could Shades of Blue season 3 be held until fall?

Shades of Blue season 3

Is it possible that we could actually be forced to wait until fall in order to see the Shades of Blue season 3 premiere? It’s certainly not something that we want; yet, it’s something that may nonetheless happen.

At this point in the spring, we started to think that there could be some rumblings as to when the Jennifer Lopez-led series could premiere. After all, we’ve been waiting a long time as it is — season 2 premiered more than a year ago and we know that there are many frustrated fans out there wanting some sort of official news. It seems unlikely at this point that the series will have an early summer launch, given mostly that NBC has already announced premiere dates for some of their shows and Shades of Blue is not one of them. We don’t expect to see it in either late May or June.

Yet, there could still be some hope that Harlee could be back on the air this July, roughly around the same time that an NBC summer show in Midnight, Texas is premiering. Given that Shades of Blue season 3 has a ten-episode order it is therefore possible that it could premiere in early-to-mid July and be wrapped up before the official start of the fall season in late September. Just remember that it’s also possible the network could air a two-hour premiere.

We’re not ruling out summer yet as a launch for season 3, but we do think that the fall could remain an intriguing possibility in its own right. We could imagine NBC wanting to put a show like this on Fridays at 9:00 p.m. Eastern in an attempt to shore that timeslot up a little bit — while the ratings weren’t exceptional the first two episodes, they were solid and Lopez has a devoted following. Shades of Blue could also work as a show to follow This Is Us or air somewhere else depending on whatever renewal / cancellation news comes out in the weeks ahead.

No matter when it’s on, the main hope we have is for NBC to confirm something and soon. It’s been a long wait for details, and we have to hope by at least upfronts in May more information will be unveiled.
