Quantico season 3 begins with a time jump — what’s next?
When Quantico season 3 premieres on ABC next month, it will be doing so by giving you a very clear reminder that this is not the same show that you remember. There is a new tone, a new showrunner in Michael Seitzman, and also a new time period to go along with that.
The premiere of the Priyanka Chopra series is going to reveal that there have been many years that have passed since the end of the crazy second season of the show; with that, characters are going to be in very different places doing very different things. This will help to explain why many actors from the first two seasons are not around, and it will offer up something that feels like a new flavor that is indicative of where characters now are.
For a little more on how this story begins, here is what Seitzman had to say on the subject to TV Guide:
We start with Alex three years later, living in Italy. She’s not with Ryan. We don’t know where Ryan is at this point. We find Alex living with somebody else — a man named Andrea — in the small town of Montepulciano, Italy where she works in a vineyard and she comes home to him in the evening and his daughter Isabella, who’s a beautiful 7-year-old girl. They live in the Italian countryside together.
Then somebody finds her. Somebody bad finds her. That sort of brings her back into the world that she had left. As the episode progresses, we start to learn what happened. As the season progresses, we learn how she ended up in Italy, and we learn what has happened to Ryan, why she’s not with Ryan at the moment. We learn what draws her back in and what she’s coming back in to do.
At the moment, we would argue that one of the biggest struggles plaguing Quantico entering season 3 is that there may be many out there who are fundamentally clueless that the series is still on the air. It hasn’t been promoted all that much yet and it seems like that’s only going to start gearing up when Scandal (which is currently occupying its timeslot) starts to wind down. Given that Quantico is airing into the summer it’s hard to know what to expect from it in terms of the ratings. What we do know is that it would be nice to see a consistent story, a great emphasis on character, and to have hope for a season 4 down the road.
