Blue Bloods season 8 episode 18 preview: Someone gets shot

Blue Bloods season 8

Is Vanessa Ray leaving Blue Bloods and the Eddie role? It’s understandable that you may ask that question after seeing some of the first season 8 episode 18 details.

CarterMatt doesn’t want to waste too much time before getting into the meat of this story, so let’s kick things off with the official episode synopsis below:

“Friendship, Love, and Loyalty” – After a woman voices her outrage regarding the NYPD’s inability to find her son’s murderer, Danny reexamines the case, upsetting the original detective, Erin, and Anthony, who didn’t pursue the case due to lack of evidence. Also, Eddie is shot while on duty; Erin and her ex-husband, Jack (Peter Hermann), face off in court; and Frank contends with an angry police force when Mayor Dutton (Lorraine Bracco) fails to defend them at a press conference, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, April 6 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The bad news from the synopsis is that Eddie’s life could be on the line. Anytime an officer gets shot is a pretty huge deal; in this case, though, it doesn’t appear that the shooting will be fatal. Eddie is mentioned in some press releases following this episode, so while there’s still a reason for concern (shootings can have long-term physical and emotional ramifications), it’s not so serious that she will no longer be a part of the show. That’s good news, mostly because after losing Amy Carlson at the start of the season it’d be a little too much for some out there to also lose Vanessa Ray in the process. Can we have the remainder of the season go without any more major cast departures? Fingers crossed.

As for the remainder of this episode, we’re certainly thrilled to have Hermann back on the show since Jack always brings some entertainment to the table. It’s also nice to get more of Lorraine Bracco as the new Mayor since we haven’t seen that much of her as of late. She’s tried to be a Mayor for the people of New York City, but in the process doing that has led to some serious tension with the police.
