When could Criminal Minds season 14, if renewed, start filming?
In a new post on Twitter executive producer Harry Bring noted that March 28 was the final day of production for the series (at least for now); filming will be off for more than three months, and will start again on July 11 provided of course the renewal happens. Don’t read too much into this as of yet as a guarantee that it’s being renewed though; it’s common practice for shows and production companies to plan as though they have another season coming up since otherwise, they run the risk of having to plan everything out last-minute which could result in a less than stellar season. Remember that the writers are going to need to get together a good stretch of time before July 11 in order to start penning season 14 episodes — that’s why the earlier the renewal, the better it is for everyone.
Typically Criminal Minds renewals take a good bit of time to come down the pipeline with one of the biggest reasons for that being that there are so many negotiations that need to be had — more so than your typical season of the show itself. CBS and ABC Studios have to huddle together in order to make sure that things happen and judging from the fact that there is a cliffhanger coming at the end of season 13, there have probably been many different conversations out there already on the subject of ensuring that another season happens.
As for whether or not season 14 is the final season, it’s probably best to not get altogether far ahead of ourselves at the moment. Much of that will probably depend on the ratings this fall and in the winter of 2019. There are so many different calculations that networks make at this point that the live+same-day numbers are really just a small piece of the overall puzzle.
