Finale Forecast: How could Chicago PD season 5 tie up the story?

Chicago Pd season 5 teaser

In this particular edition of our Finale Forecast article series, we’re looking at Chicago PD and, to be specific, if there is a great way for the NBC show to properly wrap up its story in full. We’ve gotten a good sense to date as to what the main story of the season is, and we’ve got a pretty good sense that is going to carry through the rest of the season.

To date, what we’ve seen can be described in really rather simple terms: Voight is being targeted by Denny Woods, who seems to be ready to stop at nothing in order to ensure that Intelligence is taken down once and for all. In the finale, be prepared to see this sort of situation escalate to the point where there could be many different characters caught in the crossfire.

In one way or another, we do think that Voight should face some sort of consequence. This comes back to the biggest issue with this character, and it’s one that we’ve had a rather hard time trying to reconcile over the past couple of years: Trying to reconcile him putting bad people away and also the fact that he’s also murdered. While he doesn’t necessarily seek out people in the way that Dexter Morgan did on his show, he is still getting rid of bad people by committing bad acts himself. Woods is on to him to some extent, but how far that goes still remains to be seen.

Other expectations

Burgess – Wouldn’t it be nice to see her and Ruzek finally have some forward movement? It’s been a slow burn for sure, but eventually you would have to think it would pick up some steam.

Upton – We definitely understand there being chemistry between her and Halstead, but we still don’t think that it’s 100% necessary for the two to date just yet. Maybe we’re still aboard the Upwater ‘ship, but we also wouldn’t mind Halstead as a love interest if the timing is right and it isn’t forced.

Platt – Have a big storyline in the finale. We love Trudy and we do still think she’s been the most under-utilized character this season, especially now that Olinsky is in the midst of a great story.
