The Big Bang Theory season 11 spoilers: Jerry O’Connell playing Sheldon’s brother

It’s been a long wait, but The Big Bang Theory season 11 is finally doing something that we wanted to see a long time ago: Bringing on board Sheldon’s brother Georgie. He’s one of the few family members of his that we have never had an opportunity to meet and we know now officially that Jerry O’Connell will be playing the part. This was confirmed on Thursday while at PaleyFest, with the idea here being that the finale will in fact serve as Sheldon and Amy’s wedding.

To go along with the news of O’Connell’s return, Laurie Metcalf will also be coming back as Sheldon’s mother Mary — a big casting get at the moment given that it’s coming off of Metcalf’s Oscar nomination for Lady Bird. 

The character of Georgie was referenced for years on The Big Bang Theory, but really only started to rise in prominence this year because of Young Sheldon. That of course did lead to a desire to be able to eventually see the character more in full form on the flagship show; we haven’t seen too much of Sheldon’s sister Missy, but she has at least appeared on the show back in the first season. It always felt like there was more that the series could’ve done with that character, similar to the amount of story in which they attempted to get out of Raj’s sister Priya during the time in which she was on the show.

The panel contained a lot of entertaining chatter in regards to the eleventh season, but there was one subject that really wasn’t touched on anywhere near as much: Whether or not there will be a season 13 of the series. The twelfth season is already reported and there have been many a report out there suggesting that this upcoming season could be the end of the road. If that is the case, we do still think that the cast and crew will have a great deal to celebrate. It’s had a fantastic run on television and we certainly feel like its stamp in TV history is already clear.
