Designated Survivor season 2 spoilers: Nora Zehetner of Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes to recur
According to a new report coming in right now via Deadline, Nora Zehetner of Heroes, Everwood, and Grey’s Anatomy fame is going to be appearing in a recurring basis as Valeria Poriskova. She is someone who on the surface is going to be the sort of person everyone wants to spend time with — she is intelligent, smart, and can hold her own in just about any setting. She may be able to use her appearance in order to lure some into a false sense of security. At the moment her title is a “cultural attache” for the Russian embassy in Washington DC but her real duties are buried somewhere within that: She is actually working within the spy world, trying to run intelligence agents for the country on American soil. It’s a role that is complicated and feels a little like an obvious version of The Americans.
We don’t think that we have to spell out why Russia is dominating the headlines, and why with that Designated Survivor would want to take on some of those headlines for the sake of telling a story this season. It works as a means to get people talking about the show, which needs some sort of further injection of timeliness to help pull it out of what has been a ratings slump as of late. Bringing in this sort of storyline for Kirkman to deal with is interesting given that at this point in his Presidency, especially after everything that he has went through, you would want to think that he would be well-versed within the world of conspiracies. Yet, as it turns out there are some things that could still surprise him and unexpected challenges he could face.
