Saturday Night Live: Chadwick Boseman hosting April 7 episode; Cardi B performing

FredWho is hosting the next new episode of Saturday Night Live? That’s obviously a question going into the new installment tonight, given that we had a good feeling that it was going to be revealed at some point within the first half-hour of the show. SNL obviously has just about every option under the sun, so this is the sort of thing that is really hard to predict in advance.

Well, ironically the April 7 show is one with a host that we really should have seen coming. Chadwick Boseman, star of Black Panther, is going to be hosting the series for the first time! He is going to be joined by musical guest Cardi B. Boseman is probably never going to be more popular and this was probably the first chance that SNL was going to have to book him following the success of his movie. The past three hosts have been set in stone for a while.

Interestingly enough, though, there has already been a Black Panther sketch on the series — Sterling K. Brown, who is also in the movie, did one on his episode of the show. Boseman is a pick for the sake of getting great ratings and we do not blame SNL for it for a second. Why wouldn’t they want someone hosting the show who is, by far, one of the most famous movie stars out there today? Also, he’s being paired up with one of the most-popular rappers working in Cardi B. This should be a nice way to boost up numbers at a time in which they often do fall in the spring.

Will Boseman be a great host? We think that he’ll have the chops for it, but the bar is set really high given that he is coming on following Bill Hader.
