Grey’s Anatomy season 14 episode 15 review: Alex’s past and his surprising present

Grey's Anatomy season 14 episode 15

Grey’s Anatomy season 14 episode 15 was a nice combination of different things — welcome surprises, fantastic moments, and a few other events that we absolutely didn’t see coming.

For one, let’s start with the fantastic performance from Greg Germann tonight, one of the most underrated character actors out there, as we had a chance to learn a little bit more about Tom’s past. This isn’t just a super-cocky mega-doctor who thinks that he can do everything. He also has encountered his own crisis of faith before and it just so happens that he is the perfect person to help to talk April Kepner off the edge.

Now, the main story of the night was largely the stories of Alex Karev and Maggie Pierce, and we’re speaking about them long before they became doctors. As it turns out, Maggie’s former love turned out to be gay, and she also created a poem that was considered to be so morbid that she couldn’t date anyone for a long time. Meanwhile, Alex struggled with his mother’s mental illness. He did everything that he could in order to help her, but it was a pretty impossible situation for someone at his age.

Finally, the last story tonight related to Meredith Grey and her struggle to get the patent for the polymer — Marie Cerone was so desperate for recognition that she basically held Meredith hostage. Either she change the name of Ellis’ method to include her or she was basically going to take Meredith’s new method of the tiny livers for herself. Meredith didn’t want to change her mother’s past without hearing her side; with that, it appears as though she is wedged between a rock and a hard place.

Some romantic moments within the hour

Seeing the patient of the week, a cosplaying geeky kid, be serenaded by his boyfriend who came in and gave him what basically amounted to a Shakespearean monologue.

If you want a second romantic moment of the hour, you probably get that in the form of Maggie finally agreeing to go out with Jackson as he spent most of the hour wondering why she was avoiding him.

THE romantic moment of the hour

“You are my home, and you are my heart, Alex Karev.”

After seeing so much of his past and wondering why she would want to leave, Alex and Jo are now engaged! He was so afraid that she was going to leave that he distanced himself from her. Meanwhile, along the way Jo realized that she was used to fleeing situations because of her past. In the end, tonight marked the two finally coming together thanks to Jo’s proposal! She used the ring that Alex had in the drawer and gave us a very unique proposal for the ages.
