Criminal Minds season 13 finale to be a part of two-hour event

Criminal Minds season 13 premiere

The Criminal Minds season 13 finale is now set to be even more of an event than it was previously. After all, the CBS series is going to be wrapping things up for the spring with two episodes airing back to back.

The network confirmed on Monday that Criminal Minds is set to end its current batch of episodes on Wednesday, April 18 with two hours airing back to back. This will temporarily bump SEAL Team off the air for a week, but it allows for the crime drama to create a little more buzz surrounding the final chapters of its story this spring.

As for whether or not these are the final chapters of the series to date, that remains to be seen. While we remain cautiously optimistic that the series will get at least one more season, this is the first time that we’ve really felt like Criminal Minds is on the bubble to some extent in the entire series’ run. What we’d prefer to see is CBS renew the show and then announce a final season; we’d rather see it have a final season a little sooner in the future than one that gets canceled abruptly and we don’t get some sort of proper ending. That is the crummy thing about many long-running shows throughout the network’s history; a number of them end out of nowhere and don’t really have a proper chance to say goodbye. Without a Trace and CSI: Miami are two great examples of that.

As for how Criminal Minds could wrap up this season, it is very well possible that they could continue to take the series down its current trajectory with Linda Barnes doing everything that she can to strip down the BAU and make it into her own creation. As of right now multiple members of the unit have been splintered off into various segments and it may never be put together again. We certainly hope that it will.

If you missed it…

In the video below, we talk about the desperate state of the BAU and how Linda Barnes is effectively terrible for what she’s done with the unit. If you enjoy this video, be sure to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube.
