In looking beyond tonight’s finale on USA, what are the Falling Water season 3 renewal odds? That’s the focus of this article and also the subject of some fairly-interesting debate.
Let’s start this piece by discussing where the show is right now with season 2. Without knowing the ratings for the finale (impossible to know that before it’s aired, and those numbers probably will not be available for a few more days), so far the season is averaging a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and around 350,000 viewers. Note that these are live+same-day ratings, and don’t include anyone streaming or watching the show via DVR after the fact. Given that we’re speaking here about a series airing on Saturday nights, it’s obviously going to be very time-shifted with many viewers checking out after the fact.
If this enough to get the series renewed? We’re not incredibly confident at the moment, though we’re always going to be in the corner of a show and never want to see anything putting art out into the world end. There are two major causes for concern at the moment when it comes to the future of Falling Water.
1. The state of the ratings – We’ve already pointed out the numeric totals for this season, but the show’s trajectory is also equally important. So far, Falling Water is lagging behind season 2 by a pretty substantial margin. It’s down more than 30% in the demo and 20% in total viewers (once again, live+same-day estimates) versus season 1. The timeslot is a big factor in that but live viewers do still matter.
2. Lack of substantial buzz – There just isn’t a ton of promotional material out there for the series and with that, also not a ton of social-media traffic. Given how important this sort of self-starter buzz is to networks these days, some of this does not make us altogether hopeful about the future of Falling Water, even if we would like to be.
Once there is more out there on the Falling Water season 3 future, we will be sure to have that information for you here.
