The bad news here is simple: There is no new installment airing on CBS next week. That may sound incredibly frustrating given the fact that it wasn’t all that long ago when we last had a hiatus, but in reality Scorpion has actually been on the air more frequently so far this season than almost any other show on the air. There have been many runs of consecutive episodes throughout the past few months and next week is actually the last week without a new episode the remainder of the season.
Scorpion returns on March 19 and from that point on, there are going to be new episodes the rest of the way. The finale is going to air a little bit earlier than the standard TV show on April 23, and one of the biggest reasons for that is because the network wants to use April 30 / May sweeps in order to launch another show in Elementary, which is airing partially outside of the season proper for the first time.
What does the early finale mean for the future of Scorpion? It’s possible not much; the decision to renew or cancel the series is going to be based more on the ratings and the series’ overall profitability when you consider everything from DVR ratings to streams. They will take everything that matters into account and try to figure out a way to announce the series’ future, one way or another, come later this spring.
As for what we want to see the remainder of the season, we feel like some of the relationship-based storylines will continue to build organically and there’s little reason to over-emphasize that. Personally, our interest is more in seeing if the writers can come up with entertaining ways in which to introduce either new characters or some significant new threats.
