Homeland season 7 episode 4 reaction: O’Keefe’s standoff

Homeland season 7

Before we go into much else in regards to Homeland season 7 episode 4, can we kick things off by singing the praises of Jake Weber in the role of O’Keefe? Few are better at being dastardly in between this show as well as Hell on Wheels.

Tonight, we saw what could be the pinnacle of O’Keefe’s story as he found himself arrested. With that, it feels like his rise to power ends in a cowardly, bloody, and also distressing way. Some of his supporters have met a grisly end and he no longer has a leg to stand on. What is this meant to show? “All talk, little action” seems to be O’Keefe’s mantra for himself. He was fine allowing others to arm and rally but when the chips were down, so was he.

We enjoyed most of the O’Keefe arc so much that we don’t even mind who ridiculous and over-the-top much of it was. This in turn shows perfectly what some of the problems are at present with Homeland in a 2018 political climate — it is very difficult to see anything top in terms of pure drama what is happening in the real world. It’s with that in mind, though, that the writers and producers may be finding some ways to subconsciously try and top what’s happening in the real world. That’s not always the right thing to do, largely because it does place the show in a spot where it is somewhat hard to believe.

Carrie’s storyline on Sunday’s episode was a little more under the radar and that was fine, mostly because the Saul – O’Keefe battle has shown itself to be very compelling the past couple of weeks. With that said, though, it feels like time to take a break and move on to some other subjects. Let’s hope that there is an opportunity to do just that.
