The Assassination of Gianni Versace episode 7 preview: Donatella’s struggle

For those of you out there who’ve been wanting more of the Versace family within The Assassination of Gianni Versace, we come bearing good news: Episode 7, entitled “Descent,” may be your biggest opportunity for that. It’s a chance to understand more of what is going on within that famous family in the wake of some fateful events. We’re now building more towards that fateful moment — the title for this episode is no mere coincidence. If there was ever an hour to ultimately signify where this journey is heading for Andrew Cunanan, this is more than likely it.

For a little more insight into this, the promo below is the perfect example as there are warnings coming down regarding the person Andrew is becoming. He is not keeping it together, not that he really has before. The difference now is that he is growing increasingly unhinged and that, in turn, leaves open the possibility of something desperate going down.

If there was an episode that really offered up the perfect sense of how we get to the assassination, this is it. We expect a story that is compelling and also frightening — we’re nearing the end of the road now and sticking the landing here creatively could be a challenge given we’ve already seen what happens. If there is one thing that even The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story struggled with, that was it — these stories are so dark, gritty, and at times absent of hope that it is hard to find the right way to tie them all together.
