Blindspot season 3 spoilers: Bill Nye to guest star as Patterson’s father

Bill Nye

There are two things truly amazing about the latest Blindspot season 3 casting news, starting with this: Bill Nye is going to be appearing. Here’s the second part of it: He’s going to be playing the role of Patterson’s father … and also himself.

Nye announced the guest-starring news himself in a new post on Twitter alongside Ashley Johnson (see below); the finer details about the role itself were handed down via Entertainment Weekly. As you can imagine, we have questions — starting out with whether or not this is verification that Patterson’s last name is Nye and if we’re talking about the Science Guy being her adopted father or not. It probably does make a certain degree of sense when it comes to her expertise … but that is also the only part of it that makes sense. It’s so random and we’re sure that some people are going to love it whereas others are going to hate it.

Nye of course first burst on the scene decades ago with his children’s science show, and then fell off the map somewhat before surfacing on Dancing with the Stars. That eventually led to him getting his own series on Netflix entitled Bill Nye Saves the World, one that drew somewhat-mixed reviews for its tone and substance. None of that changes our opinion on Nye the man, and our belief that most of his pursuits are with the best of intentions and in hopes of both educating and entertaining at the same time. Someone on Blindspot has to be a pretty darn big fan of Bill Nye the Science Guy given that it’s hard to think that this is the person who would rise to their top of the list of people who need to be cast on a given episode of TV.

Blindspot will be returning with new episodes following its recent hiatus come Friday, March 2. If you want to get some additional news regarding that gig, you can do so just by heading over to the link here right now.
