Outlander season 4 filming takes on its latest challenge: Snow

Outlander season 4

Outlander season 4 filming has yet another challenge coming in this week, and it’s nothing related to a new cast member or anything of the sort. Instead, it’s just many of these cast and crew members working to have to deal with the wintry weather!

The clip below via executive producer Matthew B. Roberts gives you a pretty good sense as to what we’re talking about here. You can just take a look at various images across Scotland on social media today to know that there was a pretty significant snowfall, and beyond that it does appear as though there will be even more coming up a little bit later today. One of the challenges that comes with filming any sort of show this time of year is that you have to deal with stuff like this.

At the moment, though, it’s not altogether known just how much the cast and crew are really going to have to deal with outside. There hasn’t been too much in the way of super-public filming since Culross last week — we certainly wouldn’t mind some wintry scenes here and there in season 4, especially since North Carolina gets some snow and it could add even more character to the region that is being presented. Plus, it would allow for even more variance of the scenes. There are certainly scenes from the books that can be rewritten for weather, as well — many may need to be changed slightly just based on the time period in which this show is filming.

Other odds and ends

Yesterday, we reported about the casting call that has gone out to Ontario cities Sudbury and North Bay in Canada looking for First Nations people interested in being a part of the show, and we do feel like it’s worth reporting more what this signifies in terms of Outlander going out of its way in order to make sure that they accurately portray characters and people. They are investing quite a bit in flying over many of these native men and women for what is effectively a working vacation for many of them. We appreciate them not just hiring white actors and trying to pass them off as natives — we don’t think Outlander would ever do this but twenty or thirty years ago, this practice was a little bit more common.

Also, kudos to some of the Ontario press for working to get the word out there. (Fun geography fact — we often call these two places “northern Ontario” even though they are in the Southern third of the province — they’re just some of the larger population centers north of Toronto and Ottawa save for Thunder Bay and a few other places. We’ll cease being a geography nerd for now since we could keep doing this for a while.
