According to a new story over at The Hollywood Reporter, the first edition of the show entitled Sundays with Alec Baldwin is going to premiere on this very Sunday following the Academy Awards. It is going to be a special preview of sorts to an eight episode season coming up at some point later this year. There is no specific premiere date set. For this edition of Baldwin’s show, the main guests are going to be Jerry Seinfeld as well as Saturday Night Live cast member Kate McKinnon. There is obviously a pretty good reason to bring McKinnon especially on board at the moment, given that her impression of Hillary Clinton alongside Baldwin’s Donald Trump helped to bring Baldwin back to the spotlight.
Will this format work for Alec Baldwin? There is a good reason to wonder that, but there’s also a reason for confidence. Baldwin famously hosts the podcast and radio show entitled Here’s the Thing and has for many years. On that show he interviewed a wide array of different celebrities about many different topics. That show developed a fairly large audience over time, and with that it’s certainly possible he will bring some oil viewers over to a television format.
One of the only questions that you just have to wonder is whether or not there is a large enough hole in the market for a show like Baldwin’s to succeed. After all, Sunday nights already have Last Week Tonight with John Oliver alongside sports and many premium programs. They are a little bit lighter when it comes to late night television in comparison to during the week , but to be fair it is not 100% confirmed when Baldwin’s show will air on the schedule — in primetime or after the evening news.
For now, this is just a story to keep track of. As soon as some more information is known about it, we will absolutely let you know here at CarterMatt.
