American Idol, Live! with Kelly and Ryan keeping Ryan Seacrest as host
Late Monday, a piece broke in Variety from Seacrest’s former E! stylist Suzie Hardy detailing some of the supposed acts committed by the host. This followed a report this past fall, which was denied by Seacrest at the time. This led to a deeper investigation by E!, one that led to there being no clear evidence of misconduct on his part.
With this new report, though, there were questions as to whether or not Seacrest would keep some of his hosting jobs, which also include hosting the E! red-carpet special at the Academy Awards. Yet, it doesn’t seem as though any of his employers are opting to move away from him. Seacrest did not address some of the allegations on Live! with Kelly and Ryan Tuesday morning; he has since released a statement, denying once more the allegations and reiterating that there was a thorough investigation that failed to find him guilty of anything.
The question that we wonder at present is simply this: Will this decision by some of these networks hold? Much of that may depend on the nature of some of the backlash against Seacrest coupled with celebrity reaction over the next few days. The E! gig is the one we feel has some of the biggest questions around it just because it’s the gig that has the most buzz around it — also, it’s Ryan’s job to interview celebrities and not all of them may be altogether willing to speak with him. There’s also a chance that some of them could choose to bring up the allegations — it is live TV and therefore anything could happen. At the Golden Globes earlier this year, we saw Debra Messing specifically call out E! on-air over a parity dispute with Catt Sadler.
