Strike: Career of Evil episode 1 preview: Tom Burke, cast are back!

Strike: Career of Evik

Television viewers, rejoice — Cormoran Strike is back. Strike: Career of Evil is set to air Sunday night on BBC One as the first of a two-part event, and over the course of this you’ll get a few updates on this character and what exactly has transpired with him since he last turned up.

Over the course of this new series (based once more on the work of Robert Galbraith a.k.a. J.K. Rowling), you will see another notable case — yet at the same time, more noteworthy drama as the relationship between Strike and Robin leads to some tension elsewhere. He requires a lot from her due to the nature of the work, and with that, it cannot be altogether shocking that this makes her life away from the job harder. The fact that this particular case has some ties to Strike’s past makes saying no to him within the context of the job that much harder.

Below, you can get a little bit more news regarding what is coming in the form of our Strike: Career of Evil episode 1 synopsis:

Robin arrives at the office to accept a package from a courier in a rush. When she opens it she is horrified to discover a severed leg inside.

Strike (Tom Burke) begins to pull together a list of potential suspects from his past, all of whom have vendettas against him. One of the names, Jeff Whittaker, relates directly to Strike’s dead mother Leda. He brings in Shanker to help him, while Robin begins to research all three suspects.

Strike and Robin’s close working relationship begins to rile Robin’s fiancé Matthew, and the couple descend into rows. Adding pressure to the relationship, the investigation takes Robin away to Barrow-in-Furness with Strike overnight.

This episode will set a foundation, one that we hope will be all sorts of fantastic and dramatic for what is coming up on the other side. The clear and very-obvious challenge with Strike: Career of Evil is that this is a case that needs to be resolved very quickly; as a result of that, there is unfortunately not a lot of room for great character development along the way.
