If you look below, you can see the larger version of the costume pictured above from the upcoming March 13 episode, which carries with it the title of “Run, Iris, Run.” As for why Iris is suddenly going to be a speedster, it has to do in part with the bus meta for this episode — a man named Matthew a.k.a. Melting Pot who possesses the ability to transfer DNA from one person to another. He transfers Barry’s speedster ability over to Iris and for this episode, she will have to figure out a way to be The Flash while Barry leads the rest of the team over at STAR Labs.
Here is the question that we’re now left to wonder: Did Cisco just have a spare Iris speedster costume lying around just in case something like this happened? He may be the fastest tailor alive to put this outfit together!
This is far from the first time that a superhero show / comic book has used the trope of the primary love interest getting powers — yet, we don’t ever complain about it. It’s rather fun to see things get mixed up a little bit and there’s something interesting that could come from this dynamic just in terms of empathy. Iris is going to understand more just what it takes to be a speedster, while Barry will have to learn what it feels like knowing that his wife is out putting her life on the line in order to make the city safer. There will probably be many a good comedic moment that comes out of this.

If you are a frequent CarterMatt reader, then you are probably familiar already with the fact that we are a big-time Iris West fan. As a result of that, we’re very much excited to see what she is able to bring to the table here. We like to think that everyone loves to be a superhero every now and then; she was already doing heroic stuff, but now she gets to embrace having powers and the like in the same way many others do.
The best thing is that at the end of the episode, it seems as though she’ll go back to being the Iris West we all know and love already.
