The Blacklist season 5 episode 16 spoilers: Liz focuses in on her past

When The Blacklist season 5 episode 16 airs on NBC come March 14, you will start to see some of the walls close in on Ian Garvey. This villain may have evaded Liz Keen, Raymond Reddington, and others within the FBI Task Force for a time, but we’re starting to get close to a point where that time is inching close to end. He’s got going to have to answer for some of what he’s done and as a result of that, there’s a reasonably good chance that there will be some chaos.

Below, the Blacklist season 5 episode 16 synopsis for “The Capricorn Killer” details some of what is coming up:

03/14/2018 (08:00PM – 09:00PM) (Wednesday) : As Liz (Megan Boone) investigates new details in a cold case from her early work as an FBI profiler, she explores her darker impulses in therapy with Dr. Fulton (guest star Martha Plimpton.) The Task Force takes action to bring down Tom’s killers within the legal system, while Red (James Spader) takes a different approach to closing in on Ian Garvey (guest star Jonny Coyne.) TV-14 L, V

The first thing that is nice to know is that Plimpton’s appearance as Dr. Fulton (read more about her here) is not being relegated to just a single episode. We also wonder what Liz “exploring her darker impulses” really looks like. Is it possible that this doctor is making her worse rather than better? That’s certainly something we would be concerned about given that it could mean pretty big trouble for any bad people she comes into contact with in the future.

Do we anticipate that Reddington is going to be taking Garvey out this episode? That’s hard to imagine given how much room there still is this season and some of the big threads remaining that need to be resolved. The best thing that can happen for The Blacklist is the worst thing that could happen to James Spader’s character – Liz Keen learning the truth in regards to the secret that he’s been keeping. The more that she knows in regards to the suitcase, the juicier and better this show will be. That will set the stage for a confrontation that could blow up the entire world of the show as we know it — and also get us all the more excited for a possible season 6. There’s no confirmed renewal there just yet, but showrunner Jon Bokenkamp told CarterMatt earlier this year that there’s going to be something that happens there in terms of a cliffhanger that really has people on edge for whatever is coming up next.

The Blacklist season 5 is going to return with new episodes on NBC February 28.
