Chicago PD season 5: Is there a future for Upton, Halstead romantically?
When you do consider the track record of a series like this, it’s not altogether difficult to fathom the possibility of characters like these two getting together. They’re both single now, they have some chemistry together, and because they spend such an extreme amount of time with each other there’s always a chance that something happens.
Also, it’s pretty clear at this point that it’s in Halstead’s track record to pair up with people he works with. Upton and Lindsay are very different people, but it’s still something to take note of with his character.
At the moment, it may be fair to pump the brakes on the talk of the two characters getting together — for the time being, all signs point towards it being a bit premature! Speaking per TVLine recently, Jesse Lee Soffer had the following to say about the possibility of an Upton / Halstead pairing in the near future:
“Right now, I don’t think the two of them see each other in a romantic light at all … [Upton] wants to see him get his life back together.”
There is certainly a way in which to envision Upton and Halstead getting together on the other side of this, mostly because she is helping him and he, in turn, could feel a lot of gratitude as a result of this. That sort of gratitude is the sort of thing that could push this relationship into becoming something more.
As for whether or not we want to see it … let’s just say it’s possible if it’s done right. For the time being, though, we do remain firmly in the Upton / Atwater camp (Upwater!) as our favorite prospective Chicago PD ‘ship.
