The Walking Dead season 9: Boss hopeful on Lauren Cohan returning

Lauren Cohan

While it’s still not 100% confirmed that Lauren Cohan will return as Maggie for The Walking Dead season 9, consider the following more confirmation that there is work underway to ensure that this return happens.

Speaking to TVLine on the subject of Cohan’s contract status (the actress has reportedly looked into new projects during pilot season), executive producer Scott M. Gimple confirmed that there are discussions happening he remains “hopeful” that the actress will continue to play the character, which she’s taken on ever since the second season. Ultimately, Gimple may not have a lot of say in whether or not Cohan gets offered the right deal (he’s not in charge of the number), but we’re sure that he and the rest of the cast / producers are doing just about everything that they can to make her feel comfortable and as though they will be wanted aboard the series for a long time moving into the future.

There are many different components that go into getting these deals do — there’s the issue of salary, but then also schedule and understanding just how long you want to be around. More often than not these are not just one-season deals; people who come aboard tend to stick around for longer than one season.

While it would be great for there to be some immediate resolution on the subject of Cohan’s contract status, there is no guarantee that there will be. Filming for the ninth season is not slated to begin for a little while still, though it would certainly be super-beneficial to the writers to figure things out in terms of her future soon so that they can craft stories with that in mind. It’s hard to determine the future for Maggie if you don’t know for sure if Maggie is sticking around!
