TV Revivals: The state of Bones season 13 in 2018

It’s hard to imagine that talk of a Bones season 13 is going to dissipate at any point in the reasonably-near future, especially when you think about the climate that we are currently in. The Fox series is one of the most successful of all time for its network, as it aired for more than a decade and made Booth and Brennan into one of TV’s top romances. It is also one of the perfect shows to revive, given that this is a lighthearted mystery-of-the-week story where there are always going to be cases to resolve. The series finale was also perfectly structured in a way that Bones could return in the future without there being too much that would need to be adjusted. This is not like Will & Grace and Roseanne where there would need to be some substantial story changes in order to make a revival work.

There has been some talk already out there about reviving Bones, but it took place well over six months ago — prior to the start of David Boreanaz getting a full season of SEAL Team. If there is one primary issue that comes with a revival now, it is that Boreanaz is occupied at present for the vast majority of the year. It is hard to imagine anything more than a TV movie or a four-part limited series filmed over the summer. That could even be impossible as some other cast members start to get rather busy with other work of their own. Tamara Taylor, for example, was a significant part of Altered Carbon on Netflix.

Does CarterMatt think that a Bones revival will eventually happen? Right now we’d say it’s unlikely. It’s just hard to see a situation in the near future where the stars align — with the right story maybe they can, but after being in this world for so many years it feels like the actors are ready to explore some other frontiers. Maybe in two or three years that sentiment will be somewhat different, but it’s best not to hurry into anything here at the moment.
