True Detective season 3 nets Major Crimes alum Jon Tenney, more

We’ve got some rather-great news to report today when it comes to True Detective season 3 — Major Crimes and The Closer fan favorite Jon Tenney is coming on board!

Per Deadline, Tenney has been cast in a recurring role on the third season — but given that this is True Detective, there really isn’t any more to share insofar as details. Hopefully this is a super-meaty role that gives him a chance to do a wide array of different things.

Some of Tenney’s other recent credits include Scandal, The Newsroom, and Hand of God.

Other True Detective season 3 castings

Recent Justice League actor Ray Fisher has been brought on board as a series regular, and we’ve also got on board as recurring performers Rhys Wakefield and Fear the Walking Dead actor Michael Greyeyes. Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff, Scoot McNairy and Mamie Gummer were already on board as regulars. The third season takes place in the Ozarks; filming is actually taking place on-location, which is mostly notable because the Netflix series Ozark actually films elsewhere in Georgia.

The best reaction we have

This is a really good cast from top to bottom. You’ve got a few big names mixed in here with stellar character actors. McNairy may be one of the most-underrated performers out there; go check out Halt and Catch Fire if you haven’t already. Ali obviously already has that Academy Award, but it doesn’t feel in the aftermath of Moonlight that he’s gotten the due appropriately.

Unfortunately, the hardest thing to process with True Detective season 3 is having to wait around in order to check it out. New episodes of the series are not going to officially begin until 2019, and there is no immediate timetable yet as to when in the year they’ll come on. Nic Pizzolatto is responsible for penning the entirety of the season’s episodes, with Deadwood’s own David Milch also contributing.

What do you think about Jon Tenney and others joining True Detective season 3? Sound off now in the comments! Rest assured that once more news is known on the season, we’ll let you know.
