Better Call Saul season 4: Gus Fring, back in action (or at least on set)

Better Call Saul season 4

Better Call Saul season 4 is going to be premiering on AMC at some point later this year (yes, we do know that it’s a long wait) — in the interim, why not take some solace that Giancarlo Esposito is back making some more new episodes as Gus Fring?

The new post HERE via his official Twitter account is some of your latest evidence that work is being done — it’s really a reminder that Gus will be around fairly early on in the season (filming started last month). Hopefully, this means you’ll get a good dose of him throughout. Giancarlo Esposito made his first appearances on Better Call Saul in season 3, and we can only imagine that from here, he’ll get increasingly ingratiated into the story.

If we were to do a ranking at CarterMatt of some of the best Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul characters, Gus easily makes it into the top ten and maybe even the top five — what’s interesting about him on this show is that while we’re seeing in some ways the origin stories for Jimmy McGill and Mike Ehrmantraut in New Mexico (at least in terms of where they end up in relation to Walt), Gus is already well on his way when we meet him. We wouldn’t say that he is on the same level as he becomes during “Box Cutter” and some of those other season 4 episodes, he’s well on his way there.

As for some other Better Call Saul plot points to consider…

Beyond seeing how Jimmy and Mike get more ingratiated with Gus over time, also consider that we need to see Jimmy mourn his brother Chuck (in at least whatever form that looks like) to go along with questions regarding how Kim Wexler fits into the story now. So much has already transpired between her and Jimmy and his presence in her life has mostly just been a source of chaos.
